Underwater Adventure: Showroom Fitout
Underwater Adventure: Showroom Fitout
The Problem
In the 2022 National Waste Report, it was noted that Australia produced 75.8 megatonnes of waste, 25.2 of which was from building and demolition waste materials. The life and replacement cycle for a commercial showroom ranges from 2 to 10 years. This process of redesigning, construction and demolition, generates an unreasonable amount of waste.

The Purpose
Materials are often more durable than expected and are commonly disposed before they have been depleted of intrinsic value. As a result, these showroom fitouts directly contribute to the increased landfill and greenhouse gas emissions. Rising ocean levels, biodiversity loss and coral bleaching are just some of the consequences.

The Solution
The ‘Underwater Adventure’ showroom fitout for Xanita board was designed with the end of life cycle in mind. This space combined the concept of a showroom with a museum-like arrangement to showcase the versatility of Xanita Board while commenting on ocean-related environmental issues. Everything that comes with product transportation is reused somewhere in the space.

The Process
This arrangement was created to experiment with the versatility
of the Xanita Board product. As Xanita boards are a lightweight, fireboard material, I was able to highlight both the print and
custom sculptural applications. All aspects of the space were considered and optimised, from the open street facade view,
to the light and wind direction of the seasons.
